Robert G. Poirier papers, 1983-1999.

The collection includes the original 1996 printed manuscript of By the Blood of Our Alumni: Norwich University Citizen Soldiers in the Army of the Potomac and a copy of Gettysburg magazine containing Robert Poirier's article, "Norwich at Gettysburg: the Citizen-Soldier Academy's Contributions to Victory" (January 1996), and an 112 pp. manuscript with the same title as the article but which is a more detailed exploration of the topic of Norwich University alumni at the Battle of Gettysburg. The collection also includes copies of four articles written for The Journal of Soviet Military Studies, 1988-1991, and a copy of Strategic Reserves: the Forgotten Dimension written with Albert Z. Conner in Military Review, November 1983.

Robert G. Poirier graduated with the Norwich University class of 1966. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Bronze Star. Poirier served forty-two months of active duty and more than twenty years of reserve duty. He is the author of numerous articles and several books including, Red Army Order of Battle (Presidio Press, 1985) and By the Blood of Our Alumni: Norwich University Citizen Soldiers in the Army of the Potomac (Savas Publishing Company, 1999). The Army of the Potomac was created after the defeat of Union forces at the First Battle of Bull Run. Its objective was to defend Washington, D.C. by protecting the Potomac River entry into the city. The Army of the Potomac participated in the Peninsula Campaign, the Seven Days' Battles, Antietam, Gettysburg and Appomatox.
